The dowel with curls on it.
Small sections of hair were wrapped around the dowel (using curl papers at the ends). Boiling water was then poured over the hair until it was thoroughly wet.
The hair was gently patted dry with a towel, then allowed it to air dry overnight. The resulting curls were perfect!
