general notes:
My first “lower sorts” outfit to wear to events, I squeezed this jacket into my spring sewing madness in 2005. I was in complete denial about having to make it so I ended up with only 3 days to work on it. *slaps hand* Bad Jenny!
Fortunately it was a very simple garment to construct, although not a simple one to fit. Because this was “lower sorts” I don’t have to worry about fitting it to death. I could not have done any fitting without Mom’s help though, since most of the fitting was in the back.
I used a jacket my Mom made from the PI pattern as my initial toile/pattern. I used my own sleeve pattern (from the red stripe) instead of the original one. It was so much simpler that way, since that sleeve, darts and everything already fit me. The fit into the arm hole had to be modified of course.
There are so many cheats in this garment it just isn’t funny. May I just say, I adore hook and eye tape? Blessed stuff... once I figured out how to put it on that is. The only thing I’m really unhappy about and would like to tweak at some point is the fit of the back waist. It ended up too big and I didn't have time to mess with it. It almost has a high waisted appearance. Wearable no doubt, but it bugs.
Sorry about the rather blah pics. The sun was really bright today so most of the pics came out over exposed and made the jacket fabric look practically white (which it is not). The ones taken my room turned out a bit better, if you ignore the messy room part. I'll be wearing this outfit again though so we’ll try for better ones next time.
