Here is my new hat. Purdy ain't it? :> I pretty much followed the same techquine I used on my ivory silk hat. I did discover two tricks that made this one much easier than the last one though.

Last time around I shaped the straw by wetting, weighting and then letting it sit overnight to dry. I've discovered an iron with lots of steam does the same thing. Not only is it faster but I have more control in the shaping as well. Just be sure to allow the straw to cool completely after steaming/pressing and then tally ho!

It also occurred to me that it would be much easier to cover the hat then assemble it instead of the other way around (as I did last time). So that is what I did. Oh the cleverness of me! *grin* To finish the edges of the crown I applied self binding along the inside. I should have done the same to the crown but I was lazy and running out of time. At some point I will need to finish the inside of the hat...
