Visiting Williamsburg: 2003
These pictures were taken in the Milliner's Shop in Colonial Williamsburg. I instantly fell in love with this exquisite embroidered petticoat!
It is a reproduction of a petticoat in the CW collection. The linen fabric was specially woven and the woolen yarns were hand dyed to imitate the original. I was able to talk to the lady who made it and she estimated there was about 80 hours of embroidery work in the piece. The crewelwork is mostly made of stem and Hungarian stitches.
Linda Baumgarten wore this petticoat (with an historically inspired blouse and vest) to the gala opening of the Language of Clothing exhibit. I want one!!!
