Gentlemen Prefer Redheads
The hairstylists for Titanic did an amazing job with Kate Winslet's naturally blond, straight hair, didn't they?
I have naturally reddish hair so I have never colored my hair but here are some tips from my friends who do...
General Coloring Tips:
Red is the hardest color to fake effectively. It easily turns to "bronze" which is anything but natural.
A good hair colorist never uses just one color, good "enhanced" hair requires layers of color and highlights.
For home coloring, try mixing two different colors (like a strawberry blond & brown or a strawberry blond & auburn) for a more natural look. If you are going to mix colors, make sure you stay within the same product brand (all Lorèl etc.)
Try highlighting in a color one or two steps different from the dyed hair color to add depth.
Use a color glaze to keep color fresh. (This also works well for brightening or deepening natural red color & highlights - it's one of my favorite products!) |
