A close up of the center front piece of boning. 
This is a different type of boning than the other eight peices, perhaps a different manufacture? It is ¼" wide and is in a twill tape cover. It appears to be metal. It is sewn to the center front, beside the eyes, by hand with what looks like a whip-stitch.
